Sarah Jonker (1982) is a Dutch visual and performing artist. In 2006, she graduated from the prestigious Academy of Theater in Arnhem, The Netherlands. In conjunction with her acting career, she has produced artwork for shows by Dutch theater companies including De Toneelmakerij and Likeminds.
Over the course of her career, Jonker has achieved recognition as both an actor and a visual artist. She has had exhibitions in Arnhem, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Berlin and New York.
Sarah Jonker’s drawing are poetically theatrical. Her dark, absurd universe is jam-packed with detached limbs and blatant sexuality. Created in india ink, crayon, and ecocline, her compositions conjure elements of surrealism and postexpressionism. But more importantly, they’ll make you laugh and desire to be a statue.
